Clear vinyl is a great way to make something waterproof. We stock clear vinyl in a variety of weights. The lightest weight has a bit of stretch to it and is about the weight of a piece of heavy weight copy paper. The heaviest is about the weight of the oilcloth but a bit more flexible than oilcloth.
Because this vinyl is clear, it is difficult to find a glue that will work well without seeing the glue. It is better to use it in a way that will not require complete adhesion to the other layer. For example, if you are making a beach bag you can just sew it to the other fabric around the edge. If you are using it on a table, you may not even need to have it adhered.
Clear vinyl is 54" wide. 4 gauge is ultra-light, 8 gauge is light, 12 gauge is medium weight, 16 is heavy-duty (great for dining room chair seats), 20 gauge is super-heavy duty.
